The Substance Abuse Foundation Inc. (SAF) is a registered Barbadian charity with a commitment to creating spaces of hope and healing. Established in 1996, the charity was formed to fight the harmful impact of drugs and alcohol on the lives of citizens in Barbados and the wider Caribbean.
The Foundation, through its treatment centres, is considered to be at the forefront of excellence in mental health wellness and addiction management, offering a diverse and impactful range of programmes through its Wellness Clinic Services. The role sits on the Executive Committee and oversees managers and supervisors across administrative, kitchen, security and microbusiness teams.
We are recruiting for a General Manager to work in close partnership with the CEO and provide senior operational leadership across the Foundation — translating strategy into execution and unifying administrative, financial-support, and people-related functions.
The Role:
As General Manager, you'll be the operational backbone of the Foundation, working hand in hand with the CEO. You will be responsible for:
Strategic Partnership: Partnering with the CEO to turn strategic plans into operational priorities, unifying systems, processes and reporting across the organisation.
Business Planning & Reporting: Supporting annual business planning and budgets, tracking performance, and reporting to the CEO and Executive Committee.
Operational Oversight: Overseeing day-to-day administrative operations, SOPs, regulatory filings and medical plan administration.
People & HR Support: Supporting recruitment, onboarding, performance management and employee records alongside external HR support.
Compliance & Risk: Maintaining compliance with Barbados legislation and Foundation policies, and identifying and escalating operational risks.
Clinical & Therapeutic Support: Ensuring operational systems enable the safe, dignified delivery of clinical and therapeutic services, including scheduling and records management across clinical and support teams.
Fundraising & Community: Supporting fundraising events, marketing materials and donor relations.
The Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration or a related field (a postgraduate qualification or certification in Project/Operations Management or HR is an advantage).
Minimum 5 years' proven management experience, ideally in a multi-functional or charitable/NGO setting.
A track record leading administrative, HR-support or operational teams, and designing systems and SOPs in a developing operational environment.
Experience in a therapeutic or service-oriented setting supporting vulnerable populations is a strong advantage.
Working knowledge of accounting principles is a distinct advantage; strong communication skills and Microsoft Office proficiency are required.
